Mezinárodní konference proti korupci - role ženských organizací

24. červen 2001  | redakce F.CZ
Transparency International vyzývá ženské organizace k příspěvku na své 10. mezinárodní konferenci proti korupci, která se bude konat v Praze letos v říjnu.

Transparency International Secretariat is in the process of organizing a workshop on the issue of the role of women`s organizations in mobilizing the community in the fight against corruption.

We are looking for interesting examples of the work of women`s organizations in fighting corruption.

We are interested in whether corruption has a peculiar impact on women and the actions women`s organizations can take or have taken against it.

We would appreciate any pointers you may be able to give us, in the area of practical activities or interesting case studies.

Dear Friends,
As you may already know, this year the 10th International Anti-Corruption Conference will be held in Prague from October 7 - 11 .

Further information is on the website, the link is below. Please click on the IACC logo on the TI homepage for further information.

In connection with this, a workshop on "Mobilizing the community: the role of women`s organizations" is being planned for Wednesday 10 October from 11:00 to 13:00h.

We hope to use this workshop to examine the role of women`s organizations in the fight against corruption and to mobilize women`s organizations to fight against corruption, where they are not already doing so.

The aim of the workshop is not so much to discuss the working programmes of organizations, or to dwell on theory, (as important as it may be), but to have a very practically- oriented discussion on how one can mobilize women`s organizations to more explicitly take the issue on board in their work.

The workshop would aim to do this by

  • evaluating successful anti-corruption strategies and identifying successes that lend themselves to replication elsewhere
  • identifying opportunities and mechanisms for enhanced co-operation
  • developing conclusions and recommendations based on practicalexperiences
The workshop will run for 2 hours. Given that speeches will be held in other sessions, it would be preferable to avoid set piece presentations.

Case studies and reports of practical experiences will form the starting point for discussions.

Although we can fairly safely conclude that women, as the last buffer absorbing shortcomings in the general society, also suffer most from the effects of corruption and that the greater involvement of women in public life would probably lead to a reduction in corruption, as is indicated by some studies, we have not been able to turn up very many examples of the work of women`s organizations in the area of anti-corruption.

In this connection we would appreciate hearing if you have material or experiences which could be of interest for the workshop.

We would also appreciate it if you would circulate this information to your networks.
I look forward to hearing from you soon
Thank you very much for your help.
