ON MONDAY, 31 MARCH 2003, ON ACROPOLIS, GREECE, 50 EUROPEAN WOMEN DEPUTIES SIGN THE "WOMEN'S DECLARATION FOR PEACE". With the participation of numerous women, members of the national parliaments of the EU, of the candidate countries and of the European Parliament, the extraordinary meeting of the Network of the Parliamentary Committees for Equal Opportunities for Women and Men in the EU is taking place on Monday, 31 March 2003, in Athens, in the auditorium "Giannos Kranidiotis" of the Ministry of Foreign Affairs.
ON MONDAY, 31 MARCH 2003, ON ACROPOLIS, GREECE, 50 EUROPEAN WOMEN DEPUTIES SIGN THE "WOMEN'S DECLARATION FOR PEACE"

With the participation of numerous women, members of the national parliaments of the EU, of the candidate countries and of the European Parliament, the extraordinary meeting of the Network of the Parliamentary Committees for Equal Opportunities for Women and Men in the EU is taking place on Monday, 31 March 2003, in Athens, in the auditorium "Giannos Kranidiotis" of the Ministry of Foreign Affairs.

During the meeting, which is taking place on the initiative of the Chairperson of the Committee on Women's Rights and Equal Opportunities, Ms Anna Karamanou, with the support of the Ministry of Foreign Affairs and the General Secretariat for Equality, will tackle women's participation in the debate on the future of Europe, as well as the legal, economic and social dimension of women's rights.

The President in office of the European Council and Minister of Foreign Affairs, Mr Georges Papandreou and the General Secretary for Gender Equality Ms Efi Bekou-Balta will address the meeting. The proceedings of the meeting will end with the adoption of the "Declaration of Athens for the Future of Europe, the Gender Equality and the Women's Rights", a document that will incorporate the conclusions of the conference.

On Monday morning, 31 March, at 10.00, the participants will visit Acropolis, where they will address an anti-war message and will sign the "Women's Declaration on Peace", demanding to end the war on Iraq and a peaceful resolution of the crisis, in the UN framework and the Security Council resolutions.
